Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical
Contract duration: 6-months
Location: Malton - hybrid working
Rate: £47.88 p/h (inside IR35)
Working hours: Monday - Thursday 37.5 hours per week
Must be eligible for Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
Our client is progressing through the design stage of a major decommissioning project at its nuclear site in Winfrith. To support this work, they are seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join the team in Malton, North Yorkshire.
Within this role, you'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of experienced professionals responsible for delivering construction, de-planting, and demolition engineering solutions for the safe decommissioning of the Steam Generating Heavy Water Reactor (SGHWR) at Winfrith.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive team player with strong communication skills.
Key Deliverables
* Managing and providing general engineering support to ensure successful project delivery.
* Supporting the development of technical strategies, approaches and methodologies to support project delivery. This includes providing engineering support and advice and managing technical interfaces between project areas.
* Supporting optioneering activities, developing concept designs and fit for purpose engineering solutions for the project and producing and/or approving project technical specifications.
* Managing design activities in accordance with company standards.
* Leading, managing and overseeing specific areas of design, manufacture, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of plant and equipment in support of the project.
* Acting as an intelligent customer to ensure that the design and commissioning activities of contractors and suppliers meet business requirements.
* Attending and witnessing acceptance tests to de-risk programmes.
* Carrying out technical assessments/approval of contractors work instructions/method statements/risk assessments.
* Resolving issues arising from design and commissioning activities, identifying issues, implementing recovery plans and driving resolution.
* Maintaining site configuration control throughout project lifecycle and approval of as‑built drawings etc.
* Managing and coordinating the hand over to operations ensuring that all drawings, instructions and training have been supplied as required.
* Managing business personnel and contractors work, to ensure adherence to company standards and health and safety legislation.
* Liaising with site-based personnel and other stakeholders throughout project life cycle to ensure efficient and effective project delivery.
* Complying with all Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality policies, procedures, work instructions and risk assessments and support the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality on Site.
* As a customer-focused individual, the post holder will be expected to support delivery within his or her range of skills, knowledge, experience and competence.
Qualifications and experience
* Degree in Engineering or relevant subject, National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 6 (Essential).
* Chartered Engineer Status (Desirable).
* Contract management and project delivery experience (Essential).
* Experience in a practising engineering role on nuclear and/or conventional industrial plant in a highly regulated environment (Essential).
* Experience in an engineering and project delivery environment (Essential).
* Nuclear and/or conventional project engineering experience (Essential).
* Working knowledge of CDM Designer role (Desirable).
* Experience and proficiency in using 2D and 3D CAD packages (Desirable).
* Working knowledge of the Safety Rules and working knowledge of risk assessment methodology (Essential).
* Understanding and working knowledge of relevant Company and/or national engineering standards; technical, health, safety and environmental legislation; Nuclear Site Licence conditions, and quality management (Desirable).
