Plant Breeding Manager – Pharmaceutical Applications

Walker Cole International is supporting the pharmaceutical sector in seeking a Plant Breeding Manager to lead and develop its specialist breeding program. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate at the intersection of plant science and pharmaceutical development, focusing on enhancing medicinal plant varieties.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the design and implementation of plant breeding strategies targeting traits such as alkaloid content, yield, and disease resistance.
* Develop and maintain plant clones; manage clone strategies, viability, and assessment.
* Coordinate field and greenhouse trials to evaluate breeding line performance.
* Apply classical and molecular breeding techniques, including marker-assisted selection and tissue culture.
* Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical quality standards and regulatory documentation requirements.
* Collaborate with R&D and regulatory teams across disciplines.
* Communicate results and strategic updates to internal and external stakeholders.
About You:
* MSc or PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, or related field.
* 5+ years of practical plant breeding experience, including at least 2 in leadership roles.
* Strong knowledge of medicinal plants and phytochemistry.
* Familiarity with GMP, GACP, and international pharmaceutical and agricultural regulations.
* Proficient in data analysis, project management, and cross-functional collaboration.
* Experience with medicinal crops.
* Background in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
* Knowledge of EMA, FDA, or WHO frameworks for botanical ingredients.
