Job Description

*Criminal Prosecutor. Train Operating Company. 9-12 month assignment. 3+ PQE*

We are working with a notable train operating company in the UK that is looking to secure the assistance of a Criminal Prosecutor for an assignment of 9-12 months in duration on a full time basis, starting ASAP.

Successful candidates are likely to be qualified Solicitors or Barristers with upwards of 3 years’ experience in prosecuting criminal cases.

A track record of advocacy in the Magistrates Court, and a solid understanding of court procedure, particularly the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Rules, is essential. Experience of prosecuting Railway Byelaws offences would be highly beneficial.

Matters that proceed to the Crown Court will be handled by external Counsel, who will be briefed by the successful individual. It is, therefore, imperative that the successful individual is capable of instructing Counsel accurately, concisely, and at speed.

As well as prosecuting cases, this role will also involve the supervision of non-regulated individuals.

The role is London based and offers a hybrid working arrangement. Candidates can expect to spend more time in the office for the first few weeks whilst they are getting to know the team before transitioning to 3 days a week in the office. Court attendance will also be required.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

* Qualification as a Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales,
* Possess upwards of 3 years’ PQE in prosecuting criminal cases,
* A solid track record of advocacy in the Magistrates Court,
* Exceptional understanding of court procedure, particularly the requirements of the Criminal Procedure Rules,
* Experience prosecuting railway byelaws offences,
* The ability to brief external counsel accurately and at speed,
* Experience in supervising other members within a team,
* The ability to build a rapport and work closely with internal stakeholders,
* The capacity to start a new role immediately or at short notice,
* A keen eye for detail,

The ability to spend 3 days per week in a London office.

Note: Barristers must hold a practicing certificate which has an appropriate endorsement or extension to conduct litigation.
