Rural Emergency Physician

NHS Highland Location: Broadford Hospital, Broadford on the Isle of Skye. Part time - 32 hours per week. Salary: £118,164 - £141,848 per annum pro rata. This role is part of a friendly and innovative team of Rural Emergency Physicians serving Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross. Are you an ED consultant who wants to maintain a hands-on approach to emergency medicine, or a GP who enjoys emergency medicine but misses continuity of care in a traditional ED? This is a unique opportunity to work in a small acute community hospital with a high quality of life and opportunities to develop skills across a broad range of acute care needs. Responsibilities
See, assess and treat a wide variety of patients from across Skye, Lochalsh and South West Ross, including seasonal tourists. Manage a mix of medical, surgical, trauma, minor injuries, and GP out-of-hours caseload in conjunction with Advance Nurse Practitioners. Provide continuity of care for inpatients (admission to discharge or transfer) with support from ward nursing staff. Participate in weekly fracture and minor surgery clinics. Utilise skills in resuscitation/evacuation and support to the birthing unit as required. Collaborate with consultant colleagues at the nearest DGH in Inverness via phone or Video Conference when needed. Qualify for a generous annual study leave and attachment package to update and increase clinical skills (including anaesthetic/airway management experience). In addition to clinical work, contribute to the ward-based programme and ensure continuity of care for in-patients and out-of-hours care. Qualifications & Requirements
Should be on the Specialist Register for General Practice or Emergency Medicine. Prior experience in anaesthetics, minor surgery, fracture management and inpatient care is advantageous; training will be provided by attachments to Raigmore Hospital, Inverness, and other hospitals as required. Annual skills augmentation: two weeks of Anaesthetic/Airway Management experience and two weeks of other Acute Hospital experience, in addition to standard ten days of Study Leave and SPA.
