The primary role of the CTSA, as prescribed by the Treaty of Canterbury, is to advise and assist the Franco-British Intergovernmental Commission (IGC) on all matters concerning safety in the construction and operation of the tunnels under the English Channel between Cheriton in Kent and Fréthun in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France, together with the associated terminal areas. The CTSAs work includes ensuring that the safety measures and practices applicable to the Fixed Link comply with the national and international laws in force. The CTSA has a bi-national structure and adopts the principle of joint working between British and French colleagues. The successful candidate will be formally appointed as a member of the UK.
