Senior Safety Engineer - Mechanical - Aldermaston, Berkshire, RG7 4PR
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: £48,470 - £72,000 per annum + excellent benefits
Location & Working Pattern: RG7 4PR, between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking. Limited work from home opportunities due to the classified nature of the work. The role requires on-site presence at AWE Aldermaston. AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. Flexible working requests are considered.
About the Role
AWE is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Safety Engineer to join our Mechanical Safety Team within the Engineering Safety Organisation. You will provide complex professional engineering judgment to ensure effective implementation of technical engineering safety. Your responsibilities include:
1. Setting, managing, and assessing competence standards for Mechanical Engineering Safety Appointed Persons.
2. Reviewing mechanical safe systems of work for maintenance compliance.
3. Reviewing legislative records related to engineering safety.
4. Advising on and judging the safe implementation of engineering safety.
5. Oversight of supply chain contractors' application of engineering safety.
6. Providing technical support for resolving complex issues.
7. Supporting the development and operation of the Engineering Safety Organisation.
Candidate Requirements
We prefer candidates with:
* A strong mechanical engineering background with a qualification (Level 4/HNC/HND) or equivalent experience.
* Good understanding of PUWER, LOLER, PSSR, and inspection/maintenance requirements.
* Knowledge of relevant British and Industry Standards.
* Experience with mechanical building services, HVAC, and industrial gas systems.
* Possession or previous holding of an Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person appointment (AUENG/MS1/AP11/APMPS) or equivalent.
* Experience delivering engineering in manufacturing or research environments.
* Desirable: experience with large civil construction projects and safety risk management.
