The Role
Magma is a TechnipFMC company designing and manufacturing m-pipe®, a novel high-performance pipe created to meet today's challenging riser, jumper, spool and flowline applications in the oil and gas industry.
Based in Portsmouth (UK), Magma's state-of-the-art research and development facility is using sophisticated technology in manufacturing systems for production of our carbon/polymer products at rapidly increasing volumes.
Magma is seeking an electrical engineer to work on the specification, design, development and commissioning of control systems for novel production equipment and products at Magma. As part of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology team, you will be working on the implementation of new lines as well as supporting existing systems. You will be able to approach challenges and develop solutions with a low level of supervision before presenting them.
Your duties will include working on motion control equipment and drives, safety systems, and monitoring systems both PLC and video based. You will also liaise with other departments and suppliers during the execution of project engineering tasks. This role will be a mix of desk-based specification, design and documentation as well as being down on the production line both coordinating and assisting with the work.
Engineering Degree or equivalent experience including study in:
* Electrical/electronic circuit construction and fault finding
* Computer Aided Design
* Knowledge of basic IP networking
* Experience in automated control systems and their electrical supplies.
* Experience in electrical circuit fault finding.
* Willingness to be hands on.
* Proficient in the use of MS Office.
* Experience with Siemens PLC and motion control systems.
* Specification, design and implementation of precision machinery motion control systems, ideally using Siemens Simatic, Simotion and Sinamics technologies.
* PLC programming and servo drive configuration knowledge, ideally of Siemens systems, would be highly desirable.
* Qualified in the latest version of BS7671.
* Knowledge of basic IP networking.
* Knowledge of a European language, preferably Portuguese.
* Willingness to travel overseas.
* Understanding complex equipment requirements and translating into workable designs.
* Understanding the relationship between the electrical and mechanical physical systems, control systems and the overall production process or complex machinery.
* Able to cope with evolving requirements and project pace changes while remaining focussed on the successful delivery of core deliverables.
* Managing multiple workstreams and conflicting priorities.
