Role Description
This is a full‑time hybrid role based in Wickford, with a mix of on‑site work at client locations and some work‑from‑home flexibility.
The Audio Visual Engineer & Programmer will design, install, configure, and commission residential and commercial AV systems, including home cinema, multi‑room audio, and integrated control systems.
Day‑to‑day tasks include conducting site surveys, preparing technical documentation, wiring and rack building, calibrating audio and video equipment, and programming control systems such as Control4 or similar platforms.
The role involves diagnosing and resolving technical issues, performing system upgrades, and providing client demonstrations and handovers to ensure systems are intuitive and user‑friendly.
Collaboration with project managers, designers, and other trades is essential to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality and safety.
Qualifications
* Strong Audio Visual (AV) systems experience, including design, installation, integration, and troubleshooting of residential and commercial solutions.
* Applied audio engineering skills with practical knowledge of microphones and sound design for high‑quality playback and intelligible speech.
* Understanding of acoustics, including room treatment considerations, speaker placement, and system tuning for home cinema and multi‑room audio environments.
* Proficiency in AV control system programming (e.g., Control4 or similar), with the ability to create intuitive user interfaces and automation scenes.
* Competence in networking fundamentals (IP addressing, switching, Wi‑Fi) as they relate to AV and home automation systems.
* Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and construction plans.
* Comfort working on‑site, including safe use of tools, cable management, basic carpentry awareness, and adherence to relevant health and safety standards.
* Excellent communication and client‑facing skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and professionally.
