Overview

This is a non-operational job in an establishment. The job holder will be responsible for providing supervision, knowledge and skills to prisoners in non-specialist workshops. The role involves workshop and prisoner management responsibilities, with a rotational schedule and potential responsibilities in more specialist workshops on an exceptional short-term basis.


Responsibilities, Activities and Duties

* Participate in the selection process of prisoners for the workshop.
* Induct prisoners to the workshop/area of work and train them in health and safety, COSHH, machinery and tools usage. Ensure all tools, equipment and raw materials are safe, secure and properly accounted for.
* Tailor learning and training requirements to individual needs. Set work schedules and manage targets/quality standards, maintaining delivery of contractual arrangements.
* Supervise, manage and control prisoners safely and securely; responsible for performance, motivation, discipline, appraisal and development. Conduct searches of prisoners attending/leaving workshops as required.
* Initiate product development reviews to maintain output levels and provide variety of work experiences.
* Contribute to risk and health and safety assessments related to consumables and workshop activities.
* Contribute to prisoner reports including parole and sentence planning, ACCT and SIRs; provide information to case managers as required.
* Maintain regular communications via radio in accordance with Local Security Strategy (LSS).
* Request materials and estimate usage to meet work targets while ensuring quality against product specifications.
* Log attendance and approve prisoner hours worked and wages; record piece work where appropriate.
* Attend and contribute to relevant meetings; provide administrative support for workshop activities and maintain/update systems per local agreements.


Qualifications & Requirements

Behaviours: Leadership, Communicating and Influencing, Working Together, Managing a Quality Service.

English language proficiency is required, with Welsh specified for Wales where applicable.


Hours, Working Arrangements & Benefits

Working pattern options include Full Time and Part Time. Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. Hybrid working arrangements may apply; specifics discussed with the successful candidate. Annual leave, pension and other benefits are provided as part of the package.


Location

Wrexham – Hybrid work arrangement.
