Role: Freelance Technical Writer for API documentation Project
Project length: 8 days (The work can be spread across a wider time frame, such as 8 days over 3 or 4 weeks). Rate: £375 per day (Outside IR35).
100% Remote (UK timezones).
Signable is looking for a freelance Technical Writer to join us on a short-term contract and help shape the next chapter of our developer documentation.
We’ve recently launched our new developer portal, home to our API documentation, and it’s off to a strong start. Now, with your help, we’re ready to take it further. You’ll improve clarity, consistency, and usability across the portal, while setting documentation standards that developers genuinely value.
Working closely with our team, you’ll refine what’s already in place, introduce best practice where it counts, and help put the right foundations in place for long-term success. If you enjoy making a clear, lasting impact, you’ll feel right at home at Signable.
Who we are
We’re Signable, a Bristol-based SaaS company that’s been helping businesses send, sign, and manage documents digitally since 2007. Today, thousands of teams across the UK and beyond trust our eSignature platform, including Aardman, Co-op, Octopus Energy, Krispy Kreme, and Regatta.
We’re a values-driven, people-first team, and we’re proud to be recognised as a Great Place to Work ® for Tech, Women, and Wellbeing in 2025. With a 4.8/5 rating on Glassdoor, genuine flexibility, and a culture built on trust and belonging, we aim to be a place where people can grow and feel supported to do their best work.
What we do
We’re not just a tech company. We’re a collaborative team who listen, learn, and make things better together. Whether we’re improving product features, experimenting with new capabilities, or evolving how we work, we stay focused on creating meaningful experiences for our customers and our team.
We’re building for a future where digital signing is always human, helpful and within reach. With ambitious plans for growth, we’re looking for people who want to create, collaborate, and make a real impact for our customers and our team.
If this sounds like you, now is a great time to get involved.
Required outcomes
We’re looking for someone who can help us level up our developer documentation in a practical, meaningful way. The key outcomes we’re aiming for are:
* Establish a single, consistent documentation style and voice (a style guide to support this)
* Improve the clarity, structure, and overall developer experience of the portal
o Make navigation, layout, and sections easier to follow
o Reduce cognitive load for new developers arriving for the first time
o Create a smoother, more intuitive journey from “new integrator” to “productive user”
* Turn the Concepts page into a clearer, more visual explanation of how Signable works
* Strengthen developer onboarding by improving the How to Send an Envelope guide
* Publish a complete, developer-ready Embedded Signing guide
* Produce a storyboard and narrative outline for a future product video
Working approach
* This role is fully remote; no need to come into our Bristol office.
* The work can be spread out, e.g., over eight days, or around three or four weeks.
* We use Slack and Google Meet for day-to-day communication, and you’ll have access to both.
* Your primary contact will be our Lead Product Manager, who initiated the Developer Portal and currently oversees it. They’ll be available whenever you need support or direction.
* We’d like you to spend a small amount of time each day (~30 minutes) with our Technical Customer Support member. This will help them build confidence in technical writing and prepare for long‑term ownership of the portal.
