We are looking for HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists tojoin our friendly, dedicated and professional team but candidates currentlyworking towards their IBMS registration portfolio may be considered. Thesuccessful candidate will be based within Blood Sciences. Blood sciences atCDDFT is a very busy laboratory with much to offer the successful candidate.
The job description is generic for all BloodSciences BMS staff and all necessary training will be provided but evidence andexperience in a UK laboratory in Haematology and Transfusion or Biochemistry ispreferred. APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE THAT RELEVANT EXPERIENCE SHOULD HAVE BEENOBTAINED WITHIN THE LAST THREE YEARS.
Main duties of the job
The department operates a 24/7 shift system coveringdayshifts, late shifts, nightshifts weekends and Bank Holidays which thesuccessful applicant must participate in.
Cross-site cover will be required at the other site to meetthe needs of the service. Candidatesmust be able to provide documentary relevant CPD evidence in support of theirapplication at interview.
The department has a specialist portfoliotraining programme in place and has a proven track record of success. Thesuccessful applicant will be expected to take an active role in the trainingand development of staff within the department from MLA to Band 4.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
The Blood Sciences Department is UKAS accredited and part ofyour role will be to complete all required quality documentation includingtraining, competency and CPD.
You must be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, have anIBMS accredited BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
Candidates working towards HCPC registration will beconsidered. Candidates must be able toprovide documentary relevant CPD evidence in support of their application atinterview.
The main automation in Haematology is changing in 2025 toSiemens Hema analysers and stainers, Coagulation ACL TOPS 550 analysers andBlood Transfusion to Ortho automated technology.
Clinical Biochemistry at CDDFT processes approximately800,000 samples per year utilising Siemens Advia XPT Chemistry and XPT Centaur systemsas well as HbA1c testing, xanthochromia analysis. The laboratory continuouslyassesses and improves its testing repertoire. The LIMS is provided by ClinisysWinpath.
Experience of the above is advantageous but not essential asall necessary training will be provided.
