Job Summary
Lead technical temporary works design across rail and non‑rail infrastructure projects, shape the design team in Wales, manage resources, budgets, and client relationships.
Responsibilities
* Provide definitive technical guidance and leadership on engineering solutions.
* Lead resolution of CDM Regulation compliance.
* Define the brief and drive innovative development of temporary works from feasibility to detailed design.
* Develop design philosophies and ensure appropriate documentation.
* Act as the CRE (Design) on Network Rail schemes.
* Check and approve design deliverables including RAs and Decision Logs.
* Represent the company at client and stakeholder meetings.
* Ensure delivery within financial, quality, and programme targets.
* Lead, motivate and mentor the design team.
* Keep clients informed of cost implications and resolve disputes.
* Assist the Head of Design in departmental management.
* Promote a culture of excellence across AmcoGiffen Design & Engineering.
Requirements
* Previous experience as a Principal Design Engineer for temporary works in a rail environment.
* Minimum IEng/CEng level of education.
* Chartered Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
* Sentinel Personal Track Safety competence in AC and DC.
* Civil engineering project design experience – bridges, structures, stations, platforms.
* Significant experience in technical design for rail and civils temporary works.
* Background in client, contractor or consultancy organisations is preferred.
