Summary

The purpose of your role as the accounts assistant is to support the financial accounts team in ensuring the college complies with all internal and external financial reporting requirements. The position offers a salary of £27,962 per year, is a part‑time apprenticeship with a start date of Monday 29 June 2026, and will run for 3 years. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm, 35 hours per week. One position is available.


What you’ll do at work

You will reconcile the college’s bank payment accounts, producing bank reconciliations and information to support cash flow and cash management. The role involves interacting with non‑finance colleagues to communicate the financial position and resolve queries across the business.


Responsibilities

* Assist with the preparation and posting of journals, ensuring entries are accurate and documented.
* Prepare and complete bank reconciliations on agreed timetables, investigating and resolving differences.
* Record and maintain financial transactions in the ledger accurately and timely.
* Provide day‑to‑day support to the wider financial accounts team across month‑end, year‑end and routine finance activities.
* Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and keep supporting schedules up to date.
* Support the preparation of financial information, working papers and analysis for internal and external reporting.
* Collaborate with colleagues across finance and the wider organisation to resolve queries and provide accurate information.
* Follow established finance procedures and contribute to continuous improvement of processes and controls.
* Maintain accurate records and carry out duties in line with organisational policies, procedures and deadlines.
* Undertake training and development as required and support other duties appropriate to the level of the role.
* Actively contribute to personal development, attend relevant meetings and training, and observe duty of care regarding equipment and resources.
* Perform any other duties reasonably expected and commensurate with the level of the post.
* Adhere to the RCP health and safety policy, and comply with equal opportunity rules.
* Contribute to departmental and organisational activities.

Training schedule

Training is delivered virtually by a qualified, industry‑experienced team. Learners receive coaching, help and guidance to maximise the benefit of workplace experience. The programme aligns closely with real‑world technology use, ensuring skills are directly applicable on the job.


Requirements

Essential qualifications

* GCSE in English and Maths (grade pass or equivalent)

Apprenticeship in:

* Accounts/AAT (Level 3)
* Accounts/AAT (Level 4)
