Role Overview:
The Deputy Nursery Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the day-to-day management of the nursery, working closely with the Nursery Manager to ensure that all aspects of the nursery run smoothly and efficiently. You will lead by example, provide leadership to staff, support with operational tasks, and maintain the highest standards of care and education for the children.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Support
* Assist the Nursery Manager in day-to-day management of the nursery.
* Support, mentor, and motivate nursery staff to deliver high-quality practice.
* Lead team meetings and training sessions in the absence of the Manager.
* Participate in recruitment, induction, supervision, and appraisal of staff.
Childcare & Curriculum
* Ensure the EYFS curriculum is effectively implemented and monitored.
* Support room leaders in planning, assessment, and observation.
* Promote inclusive practice, supporting children with special educational needs.
* Maintain a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children.
Safeguarding & Compliance
* Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), supporting safeguarding procedures.
* Ensure staff adhere to safeguarding policies and statutory requirements.
* Monitor compliance with health, safety, and hygiene standards.
* Assist in maintaining accurate records related to safeguarding, accidents, and medication.
Operational Duties
* Help oversee daily nursery operations including staff rotas, registers, and resources.
* Support financial processes such as invoicing and fee collection if required.
* Contribute to policy review and implementation.
* Ensure the nursery environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
Parent & Community Engagement
* Foster positive relationships with parents and carers.
* Address parental queries and concerns professionally and promptly.
* Represent the nursery in meetings with external agencies when needed.
Key Requirements:
Qualifications:
○ Level 3 in Early Years Childcare (e.g., NVQ, CACHE, or equivalent).
○ A higher-level qualification in Early Years Education (e.g., Level 4 or 5) is desirable.
○ A recognised safeguarding qualification.
Experience:
○ At least 2-3 years of experience working in an early years setting, with significant experience in a supervisory role.
○ Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and a good understanding of Ofsted requirements.
○ Experience of managing staff, including supervision, training, and development.
Skills & Competencies:
○ Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
○ Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
○ A passion for early years education and child development.
○ Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
○ Strong knowledge of safeguarding practices and child protection policies.
Other Requirements:
○ Enhanced DBS check.
○ Paediatric First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
