About MapMortar
MapMortar is an award‑winning climate‑tech startup that has built the capital planning infrastructure for real estate in the climate transition. We help real estate portfolios, consultants, lenders, insurers and asset managers reduce risk, improve resilience, protect rental income and safeguard asset values through AI‑driven retrofit planning and delivery. Our RetrAgents – category‑defining, physics‑based AI agents developed with University College London – autonomously model entire portfolios at building level, turning asset data, tenancy schedules and retrofit pathways into board‑ready, investable capital plans. This runs on RAILS (Real Asset Intelligence Learning System), our continuously learning intelligence layer connecting asset data, performance outcomes and capital allocation across portfolios. We have raised 4.5 m from VCs, strategic customers and Innovate UK. Our platform is already used by leading landlords, consultants and service partners across the UK and Europe. UKPA Decarbonising the Built Environment Winner (2025), Geovation Impact Award Winner.
Sustainability & Commercial Associate
We are looking for a Sustainability & Commercial Associate to bring technical depth and commercial sharpness to the heart of how we engage with clients and the market. You will report directly to the CEO and work at the intersection of technical credibility and commercial growth. The core of this role is using your sustainability expertise commercially: producing compelling client‑facing outputs, contributing to how MapMortar positions itself in the market, and helping shape the commercial narrative around decarbonisation, retrofit and climate risk. Your domain knowledge will make our proposals sharper, our decks more compelling, and our market positioning more grounded. In addition to client‑facing work, you will contribute to events, fundraising & strategy. This is for someone who wants to learn the full picture of how an early‑stage company is built, not just the technical side.
Technical & Commercial Outputs
* ✅ Use your sustainability and decarbonisation knowledge to produce sharp, credible outputs that win clients and build MapMortar’s reputation.
* ✅ Write and review proposals, bids and tender responses – drawing on your understanding of retrofit, MEES, EPC and net zero.
* ✅ Build client‑facing decks that translate MapMortar’s technical outputs into clear capital planning narratives.
* ✅ Feed into MapMortar’s commercial positioning strategy – helping articulate how our technology addresses real‑estate owners’ biggest challenges.
* ✅ Review technical content in commercial documents to ensure accuracy, credibility and impact.
* ✅ Support the CEO in preparing for client meetings, presentations and pitches.
Client Project Support
* ✅ Support the team in delivering analysis, reports and outputs for client engagements.
* ✅ Help review and sense‑check project deliverables to ensure technical accuracy and client relevance.
* ✅ Assist with client communications and follow‑ups during active project delivery.
* ✅ Contribute domain knowledge to help contextualise MapMortar’s outputs for specific client portfolios.
Events, Marketing & Thought Leadership
* ✅ Represent MapMortar at industry conferences and networking events in London.
* ✅ Contribute to content, blogs and LinkedIn initiatives drawing on genuine sector expertise.
* ✅ Support the organisation of MapMortar events and webinars.
* ✅ Help shape thought leadership that resonates with real‑estate owners, investors and consultants.
Fundraising Support
* ✅ Help prepare and maintain investor materials including pitch decks, data rooms and financial summaries.
* ✅ Support the CEO in preparing for investor meetings and Q&A.
* ✅ Research prospective investors and help build target lists.
* ✅ Coordinate across legal and operations during fundraising processes.
Business & Strategy
* ✅ Support the CEO on market research, competitive analysis and strategic initiatives.
* ✅ Contribute to internal planning projects and operational improvements.
* ✅ Get involved in areas of the business you want to learn – we actively encourage this.
Experience & Expertise
* ✅ 3–5 years of experience in real‑estate sustainability, decarbonisation, ESG advisory, retrofit or a closely related field.
* ✅ A track record of producing technical commercial outputs – proposals, bids, decks or client reports.
* ✅ Working knowledge of frameworks such as MEES, EPC, CRREM or SBTi – helpful but not required to be deep in all of them.
* ✅ Strong written communication – clear for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
* ✅ High proficiency with presentation tools (PowerPoint or equivalent).
* ✅ Commercial awareness and understanding of how sustainability decisions connect to financial outcomes.
* ✅ Hunger to learn the business side – sales, marketing, finance, fundraising – and grow beyond a technical lane.
* ✅ Proactive, organised and energised by working in a small team with real ownership.
* ✅ Experience in a startup, consulting or client‑facing commercial environment is a plus. A willingness to grow beyond the technical is essential.
