Salary: £45,000 to £55,000

Location: London

We have an exciting opportunity to work on a large major civil engineering project for a Tier 1 contractor leading a £1.9m project. This Tier 1 contractor has been appointed to the major civil engineering project on a joint venture basis. The project is well underway, and they now need to recruit a Health & Safety Advisor due to increased workload.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record working with large civil schemes, with experience in heavy civils, tunneling, earthworks, highways, or rail infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Contribute to a culture of “Everyone Home Safe and Healthy Every Day”.
2. Support and provide information to site teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the construction plans.
3. Follow up on outcomes from inspections carried out on HMJV sites.
4. Help develop and implement health, safety, and wellbeing campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager.
5. Support investigations of near misses, close calls, and other incidents on project sites.
6. Assist the project team by identifying training needs.
7. Assist in producing health and safety plans, procedures, and associated documentation, and check compliance.
8. Assist in obtaining any necessary permits, consents, or exemptions.
9. Ensure control and proper storage of health and safety documentation.
10. Maintain records to ensure compliance with legislation, HMJV procedures, and contract requirements.
11. Provide reports, presentations, and information as directed by the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager.
12. Assist in developing plans and processes to support work delivery.
13. Support the development of site and office inductions.
14. Manage and escalate issues to the Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Manager as necessary.
15. Offer guidance, direction, and instruction to colleagues as required.
16. Disseminate information issued by HMJV to relevant employees.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

1. Sound knowledge of tunnel construction methods.
2. Relevant qualification in health and safety or previous experience in a similar role.
3. Problem-solving skills and ability to manage tight deadlines.
4. Ability to prioritize workload in a busy environment.
5. Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
