PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £42,800 - £58,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
As a Senior Journalist on the BBC's Digital News Team you will commission, sub and edit news stories, analysis, push alerts, pictures and video on the biggest news stories of the day. You will be expected to be fast, accurate and creative, with a data-led approach so that our stories engage all audiences and meet the rigorous standards of the BBC's news front page.
You will also support the assistant editor in managing a team of writers and help ensure the operation runs smoothly.

Based in the London Broadcasting House newsroom, you will be part of a busy and supportive team bringing news stories to BBC audiences around the world. The role involves driving the daily news agenda, working with correspondents, generating ideas for articles and devising the best formats to tell them, while thinking about how these stories are helping the BBC to reach a broader audience.
An understanding of how search and social trends and audience data improve our journalism will be part of the job. This role will also be called upon to manage the curation of the website, particularly when on overnight shifts, on both the UK and international facing sites.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITES AND IMPACT
* Reacting swiftly, calmly and accurately to breaking news with succinct push alerts, compelling headlines and strong pictures
* Writing, subbing and commissioning stories for the BBC News website, paying close attention to flow and tone
* Commissioning and working with correspondents for analysis and insight
* Managing and briefing a team of writers on a wide range of topics
* Knowledge of search and audience data and the ability to use it to inform stories
Your Skills And Experience – Key Criteria
* Excellent editorial judgement with significant experience editing breaking news in text on digital platforms
* Demonstrable experience of using social media, search and audience data to improve digital storytelling, reach new audiences and broaden coverage
* A track record of covering the UK and international news agenda and delivering insightful, high-quality journalism to digital audiences
* The ability to swiftly write and sub engaging news copy for news websites, with attention to accuracy, context and tone
* Experience of making decisions under pressure
* Experience and understanding of the formats, tools, and techniques to run rolling digital news coverage in both text and video
