A small, but long-standing and successful accountancy firm based in Bedfordshire are seeking to hire for a key job role and are looking for a mixed Bookkeeper and Payroll professional. The firm are undergoing a period of growth and are looking to expand their workforce to deal with the workload. The salary is negotiable, will of course depend on experience and qualification level and is open within reason. The firm will also consider full-time and part-time applications.
The firm are seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper with experience in payroll.
You will take ownership of the firm’s payroll and VAT bureau services, processing around 30 payrolls and 25 VAT returns monthly and quarterly. The role involves working closely with clients to manage their payroll, VAT, and bookkeeping needs, handle queries, and provide accurate and timely support. You'll also assist with year-end account preparation, including reconciliations and control accounts.
This is an office-based position, but there is some flexibility around start and finish times. Free parking is available nearby.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee payroll processing for a portfolio of clients, including maintaining payroll records and handling client queries
Prepare and submit VAT returns across a range of VAT schemes
Carry out bookkeeping using Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage
Ensure correct VAT treatment and transaction allocation
Raise and process journals
Assist with year-end accounts prep including reconciliations of bank, VAT, and PAYE accounts
Liaise with clients on payroll data submission and explain variances
Respond to client queries in a professional and friendly manner
Manage workload independently while being a collaborative team member
