Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced staff member to step into the role of Band 4 Central Specimen Reception Supervisor. This is a temporary full time position (37.5 hours per week)

We are looking for someone with excellent organisational, communication and leadership skills to assist and coordinate the day-to-day operations and support a team of Medical Laboratory Assistants within our busy and high-performing reception service.

This is a temporary acting-up position (3 months, full time – 37.5 hours per week) and is open to existing staff within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership. The successful candidate will be expected to work across our Partnership sites as service needs require, with a base at Royal London Hospital.

The department provides a 24/7 service, and the successful candidate will be required to participate in the shift system to cover early, late, weekend and bank holiday rosters. Some night duties may also be required.

The laboratories are UKAS and HCPC accredited. Our commitment to supporting continuing professional development is evidenced by an excellent training record.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the supervision of the reception and administrative teams across the Pathology Partnership sites and the day to day tasks carried out in reception areas. To supervise the Post room and Store room activities under the direction of the Reception Manager. Flexibility will be required within the contracted 37.5 hours per week in accordance with Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions.. Staff are expected to participate in the extended day and weekend rosters and also on all Partnership Trust sites.

The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership is an arms-length organisation providing pathology services to Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. The Pathology Partnership is hosted by Barts Health.

The Pathology Partnership is based on well-established models for pathology networks, with the Royal London Hospital becoming the main hub laboratory for the network and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at all other Hospital sites.

The 2020/21 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £126m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 822 WTE. 1. GCSE A-C in English, Maths, IT and Science

4. At least 1 year in a supervisory capacity, including staff training
5. Experience of problem solving and implementing change
6. Previous 1 year NHS experience

7. Understanding of Health & Safety implications relevant to Pathology Reception areas and specimens.
8. Awareness of Patient & staff confidentiality.

Skills

9. Proficient in computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel

11. Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing,
12. Ability to oversee and supervise work of others
