Highway Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Engineer to join their Capital Projects team within the Highways division. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of highway infrastructure projects aligned with the Local Transport Plan, Section 106, and bespoke schemes.
You’ll manage projects from concept to completion, ensuring compliance with national standards (DMRB, MCHW, Manual for Streets), and oversee contract administration using the Term Maintenance Contract and NEC forms. The role demands strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and technical expertise in highway design and construction.
Responsibilities include:
* Designing highway schemes using AutoCAD and industry standards
* Preparing works orders and bespoke contracts
* Managing project programmes, budgets, and delivery
* Supervising construction and processing contractor payments
* Liaising with stakeholders to embed client values
* Enforcing public protection regulations and ethical standards
* Supporting Medway’s climate and safeguarding commitments
Candidate requirements:
* HNC/HND or Degree in highway design (or equivalent experience)
* Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience, including team management
* Strong knowledge of highway construction and design standards
* Proficiency in AutoCAD and design software is essential
* Understanding of CDM and health & safety legislation
* Experience with NEC contracts and tender preparation
* Excellent communication and leadership skills
* Desirable: ILM3, NEC PM qualification, project management certification
