Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced Social Work Practitioner/Approved Mental Health Professional to join the Forensic Team in Gwent, working on behalf of Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen (BGT) County Borough Councils.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate resilience and clear professional boundaries, effectively operating within a challenging yet rewarding environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for accurately representing patient needs with integrity and sensitivity, as well as for providing guidance, support, and expertise in complex and high-risk cases. The successful applicant will offer in-reach services to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABuHB) inpatient wards, Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen (BGT) Mental Health Teams, and specialist community teams.
As a reflective practitioner, you will conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for individuals experiencing complex, high-risk forensic mental health conditions. This includes advanced risk evaluations and evidence-based interventions. The role requires collaborating with both inpatient and community multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) within BGT to promote optimal patient care.
A commitment to maintaining ongoing professional development and delivering a high standard of service, including wellbeing and support initiatives, is essential for this position.
Responsibilities
* Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for individuals with complex, high-risk forensic mental health conditions, including advanced risk evaluations and evidence-based interventions.
* Collaborate with inpatient and community MDTs within BGT to promote optimal patient care.
* Provide in-reach services to ABuHB inpatient wards, BGT Mental Health Teams, and specialist community teams.
* Maintain professional boundaries, demonstrate resilience, and communicate clearly and sensitively to represent patient needs.
Qualifications and requirements
* Experience as a Social Work Practitioner/Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) within forensic settings.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively within challenging environments and high-risk cases.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and delivery of high-quality service, including wellbeing and support initiatives.
* Access to a vehicle for work purposes (requirement).
* This post covers Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen and is primarily based in the Gwent Forensic Service, St Cadocs Hospital Caerleon.
* This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and will undergo comprehensive pre-employment screening including Enhanced Disclosure with Child and Adult Barred List.
