Where the sick and the poor of Belfast were cared for by some of Belfast’s greats, such as Mary Ann McCracken. Where Dr William Drennan, famous for coining the phrase ‘The Emerald Isle’, administer the first smallpox inoculations, and the likes of Robert Joy kick started Belfast’s Industrial Revolution in the basement with cotton spinning on a never-before-seen-scale.The legacy and honourable history of this unique Belfast institution is now preserved by the Belfast Charitable Society in a busy heritage site that occupies the heart of the original 1774 building. The former Poor House, now called Clifton House, hosts valuable objects and archives, as well as tells compelling stories of bravery, benevolence and endurance through exhibitions, talks and tours. It is also here where Belfast Charitable Society continues its philanthropic work, first started over 270 years ago.**Why Volunteer*** As a volunteer you join an existing team of enthusiastic and interesting people from all walks of life, young and old, who bestow the greatest gift they have to offer – their time.* Working alongside the small staff team, volunteers are at the heart of the heritage mission, assisting with events, and helping to preserve the important stories from the past for generations to come.If you are interested in volunteering at our events, or being trained to become one of our tour guides, please get in touch by emailing: info@cliftonbelfast.org.uk**Dates for your diary*** Friday 13 June - Applications due* Wednesday 18 June & Friday 20 June - Informal chats - we will contact you to arrange a time slot* Friday 27 June - Induction Evening (5.30pm)* Sunday 29 June & Sunday 6 July - Tour Guide Training (9.30am - 4pm)#### Tasks and responsibilities* Welcoming attendees at events and assisting with registration* Assist visitors with general enquiries relating to their visit* Help set up and tidy away appropriate equipment* Actively encourage interaction and feedback with visitorsSkills and experience gainedCommunication SkillsEvent SupportInterpersonal SkillsCauses supportedArts, Culture & Heritage
