The organisation

Directors UK is the professional association for UK screen directors, representing over 8,000 members across film and television. As a collective management organisation, it negotiates rights deals and distributes royalties, while also championing the creative and economic interests of directors. Directors UK works closely with government, regulators and industry bodies to influence policy, protect rights and support a thriving and inclusive creative sector.


The opportunity

Directors UK is seeking a Public Affairs Manager to support and deliver its public affairs strategy at a pivotal time for the screen industries. Reporting to the Director of Communications and Public Affairs, the Public Affairs Manager will play a key role in engaging government, parliamentarians and stakeholders on issues including copyright, AI, and the freelance economy. This is a hands‑on role in a small, collaborative organisation, offering the opportunity to shape policy activity, build relationships and support high‑profile engagement across the creative sector.


Main responsibilities

* Support the delivery of Directors UK’s public affairs strategy, working closely with the Director of Communications and Public Affairs
* Monitor political and policy developments, providing insight, horizon scanning and recommendations on emerging issues and opportunities
* Draft briefings, consultation responses and policy submissions, building a strong evidence base to support key priorities
* Map and engage stakeholders across government, parliament and industry, supporting relationship building and external engagement
* Work with the communications team to align public affairs activity with wider campaigns, content and stakeholder messaging.


Key skills and experience

* Experience in a public affairs, government relations or policy role
* Strong understanding of UK government and parliamentary process
* Experience drafting briefings, consultation responses and policy documents
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex issues clearly
* Strong stakeholder management skills and a proactive approach to identifying opportunities.
