Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence — UNSW
Join to apply for the Research Associate in Artificial Intelligence role at UNSW. The Faculty of Engineering is offering an opportunity for a Research Associate. In this role, you will conduct both independent and collaborative research activities to advance expertise in the field of Cognitive Robotics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning / Neuro-Symbolic Artificial Intelligence. This position offers an opportunity to advance scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, and actively engage with industry partners. This role reports to Professor Maurice Pagnucco, Deputy Dean (Education), Faculty of Engineering, and has no direct reports.
Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia. Salary, Level A - AUD$113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation. Full time. Fixed-term contract – 3 years.
Responsibilities
* Conduct independent and collaborative research in Cognitive Robotics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning / Neuro-Symbolic AI.
* Contribute to written outputs including scientific papers and reports for international journals; participate in conferences and workshops; engage with industry partners.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and build effective relationships across disciplines.
* Adhere to UNSW policies and guidelines; participate in health and safety training as required.
Qualifications
* PhD (or soon to be awarded) in knowledge representation and reasoning (artificial intelligence) or neurosymbolic AI or related area.
* Proven commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
* Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research with limited supervision.
* Demonstrated publication and conference presentation track record relative to opportunity.
* Strong teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, and stakeholder communication skills.
* Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and willingness to attend relevant health and safety training.
