THIS POST IS FIXED TERM/SECONDMENT FOR 23 MONTHS DUE TO NEEDS OF THE SERVICE.

This is an opportunity to be part of the NPTSSG Practice Development Team Nurse team, working within Haematology, Oncology & MPCE
The Practice Development Nurse is a key role that works with staff to develop and deliver safe, effective and evidenced based nursing care, with a direction for nursing that sets an emphasis on developing excellence and learning in practice. The role will provide a visible and accessible resource to staff; promote a positive learning environment in practice; encourage and support staff development; and nurture a culture where everyone is enabled to flourish.
The Practice Development Nurse assists in the development and implementation of a range of educational packages for Clinical staff within the Service Group. This will include undertaking formal assessments and developing improvement plans.

Main duties of the job

Develop and maintain highly effective communication networks with key stakeholders (Heads of Nursing, Matrons, Sisters, Charge Nurses, Clinical Educators and Mentors) to support and ensure development of professional behaviours and a range of knowledge and skills for all staff. Working in collaboration to advance the culture where openness, life-long learning, reflection, evidence based practice, education and training planning and implementation is accepted, respected, acknowledged and secured as the way forward for Nursing within the Health Board.

Develop, facilitate, deliver and evaluate along with other Practice Development nurses, education and training for nurses and Health care Assistants linked to Divisional/Area needs, and relevant standards, e.g. NMC Future Nurse: Standards of proficiency for registered nurses; Fundamentals of care, All Wales HCA induction, HCA Framework, Qualifications and Credit Framework Diploma.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate teaching/ educational programmes for nursing and other clinical staff to support the implementation of change/development of core professional skills; and the development of evidence based practice initiatives in order to contribute toward the achievement of excellent care for patients.

Monitor the progress of Registered Nurses undertaking the preceptorship framework and support them throughout the process to ensure they receive the best support during the transition.

Qualifications & knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Registered nurse.
2. Teaching/assessing qualification to Postgraduate Diploma Level (Level 6) or equivalent
3. Evidence of nursing related qualification to degree level.

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Post registration experience.
5. Sound knowledge and understanding of current nursing and education issues.
6. Experience of working effectively as part of a team as well as working autonomously
7. Demonstrates enthusiasm towards teaching and sharing knowledge.
8. Broad clinical experience Clinical credibility.

Desirable criteria

9. Involved in service development and quality issues

Apptitude & abilities

Essential criteria

10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to form positive working relationships and work across Divisions & Corporate department
11. IT literate and able to deduce key points from numerical data. Able to develop a culture of quality within education and training.
12. Evidence of managing staff within a team and dealing with difficult situations.
13. Acts in a way that is consistent with legislation, policies and procedures and abide by the HB Health and Safety policies. Self-motivated, Positive role model for all disciplines.

14. Have an understanding of ESR
15. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
