Senior Project Manager – Construction Location: Manchester, Derby, Warrington with Hybrid working available. This role will have some international travel requirements. About the Role We need you to lead the end‑to‑end delivery of construction activities for one of the most ambitious infrastructure programmes in Europe. As Senior Project Manager – Construction, you’ll take accountability for full lifecycle construction delivery, from early permitting and constructability input through to site execution and handover. Working within the Customer programme, you’ll play a pivotal role on the critical path — shaping construction strategy, directing multi‑disciplinary interfaces and assuring delivery outcomes at programme level. This is not a package management role. You’ll operate at senior level, providing leadership, challenge and assurance across multiple construction projects, while leading and developing a team of Project Managers. What You’ll Be Accountable For You’ll own construction outcomes, not just delivery tasks. That includes: Leading full lifecycle construction delivery, from pre‑construction, permitting and early works through to site delivery and handover Setting construction strategy, sequencing, phasing and delivery plans that align to overall programme milestones Providing clear direction and assurance to the programme on construction readiness, risks and delivery confidence Managing complex interfaces across design, engineering, permitting, contractors, procurement and regulators Leading permit and regulatory-related construction activities, ensuring requirements are understood and embedded into plans Owning construction schedules, cost forecasts and delivery performance, with support from planning and cost teams Leading contractor and supply chain engagement across multiple work packages Escalating issues clearly and confidently at senior level, offering solutions and options Creating a high‑trust, high‑performance culture within your team and across the wider programme Leadership & Team Responsibility You’ll line manage and mentor a team of approximately 2–4 Project Managers, with accountability for: Performance management and development Resource allocation and prioritisation across projects Recruitment input and team growth as the programme scales Ensuring consistent application of project management standards and ways of working What You Bring We’re looking for a senior construction project leader who is comfortable holding accountability and operating at pace. Core skills and experience include: Senior‑level construction project leadership on complex, regulated infrastructure programmes Demonstrable experience delivering construction projects end‑to‑end Strong capability in construction planning, scheduling, sequencing and phasing of works Deep understanding of construction permitting and regulatory environments Confidence managing multiple interfaces across design, permitting, contractors and delivery teams Experience operating at senior stakeholder level, providing direction, challenge and assurance Proven ability to manage financial performance on multi‑£m capital projects Experience leading, coaching and developing project teams Experience within nuclear, energy or similarly regulated industries is advantageous — but not essential if you bring strong transferable construction leadership skills. Qualifications Engineering degree or significant experience delivering complex engineering or construction projects Project management qualification (e.g. APM PMQ or equivalent) or equivalent experience Membership of a relevant professional body is beneficial Reward & Benefits Salary: £60,000 - £78,750 Bonus: Up to 12.5% Benefits Allowance: £2,200 Pension: Standard Rolls‑Royce SMR pension Holiday: 29 days plus bank holidays Working pattern: 37.5 hours per week (flexible and part‑time working supported) Other: 6x pensionable life assurance 50% income protection £250 new‑joiner payment Our Commitment to Inclusion At Rolls‑Royce SMR, we believe diverse teams build better outcomes.
