Job overview
Being part of the pharmacy team working within mental health services (MHS) and community health services (CHS) ensuring that the changing medicines management and pharmacy needs are being met across NELFT. This will be across both our inpatient and community services.
Ensuring the operational pharmacy services are underpinned by appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) and policies developed to reflect Trust objectives, departmental strategy, national policy and initiatives.
Leading a team of pharmacy technicians, assistant technical officers (ATOs) and apprenticeship programmes to ensure a high quality, efficient and safe medicines provision and clinical service is provided for patients.
Leading on education, training and development of staff across the and shared learning across the organisation on a wide range of medicines related issues, policies and procedures.
Supporting the digital transformation agenda and maximising medicines optimisation opportunities through active involvement in the development and review of advanced technology and systems in use within the Trust.
Ensuring robust medicines management governance processes are embedded into the culture of the organisation providing assurances on the safe and secure handling of medicines and patient safety across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
To support the delivery of the medicines strategy and vision for the department and the Trust, focusing on promoting independence and reducing potential for harm from medicines
To support the clinical pharmacy leads in the delivery of safe and effective technician led medicines reconciliation and discharge service on inpatient wards, home treatment teams (HTTs) and community services.
Support development of the community based pharmacy model towards a patient focused service which not only provides a supply and medicines advice service but includes clinical support on medicines related issues to clinics and home visiting services.
Ensure SOPs and policies are reviewed and updated in line with Trust priorities, legal and professional advances and national and local initiatives.
Be responsible for the co-ordination of medicines management audits across the organisation, delivering quality improvements and new initiatives that continually raise standards and minimise risk to patients.
Utilise digital transformation and technical advances to maximise use of stock control system intelligence to inform cost efficiencies, minimise stock holding and reduce pharmaceutical waste.
Support the medicines safety team in the reduction of medication incidents, manage risk related to medicines and ensure compliance with medicines legislation.
Lead on the development of educational programmes to consolidate and further the knowledge and skills of pharmacy technicians and ATOs. Support the development of training programmes for other disciplines across the organisation to support and raise awareness of medicines management policies and procedures.
Assist the senior leadership team in risk assessment, service development and improvement initiatives.
Participate in, contribute to and present at departmental, service level and external meetings as needed.
