The Portering Team Leader will assist the Portering supervisor in the effective day to day labour management of their shift.


Qualifications & Experience

* Fully experienced as a Rotary Shift Porter (C & R)
* Completed training in Portable Gas Cylinder Safety (BOC)
* Completed training in Fire Response Team
* Completed training in Control and Restraint
* Completed training in Breakaway
* Completed training in Radio Operation
* Completed training in Computer Database Operation
* Completed training in Manual Handling
* Completed training in Customer Service Skills
* Completed training in Diversity within Customer Service Excellence
* Completed training in Electric Vehicle Driving


Key Duties and Responsibilities

* Experience working in an Emergency Department service.
* Act as Team Leader by assuring that the workload is prioritised on their shift.
* Make day‑to‑day judgments on Portering requests, based on own knowledge & experience of the ED service and communicate these decisions clearly.
* Ensure that enough Porters are available on each shift to provide an efficient service during periods of annual leave, sickness or training, while minimising unnecessary overtime.
* Ensure all staff adhere to the clock‑in procedure.
* Ensure the annual leave booking procedure is followed on their shift.
* Ensure staff on their shift follows the sickness reporting procedure and completes sickness forms for the Portering Supervisor.
* Meet with staff to discuss capability issues informally and advise the Portering supervisors of all first‑level formal capability issues.
* Liaise with departmental managers and clinical ED managers on day‑to‑day Portering issues and delegated action.
* Carry out daily stock‑take of medical gas cylinders and other department‑related issues.
* Maintain discipline on their shift at all times and inform the Portering supervisor or Shift Facilities Manager of issues requiring disciplinary investigations.
* Work with the Portering supervisor to introduce service improvements.
* Book refresher training courses ensuring all staff complete their full induction and ongoing training requirements.
