Role Overview
We are currently looking for an Accredited Medical Assessor to join our Clinical Trial Authorisation Function within the Scientific Research and Innovation Group.
This is a full‑time permanent role based at 10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London, E14 4PU. The role can only be worked in the UK. We are implementing a flexible hybrid model, requiring a minimum of 8 days per month on site (up to 12 days for certain roles) and the remainder remote.
The Scientific Research and Innovation Group delivers public health impact, leading research and regulation. Accredited medical assessors are responsible for assessing the medical aspects of Clinical Trial Authorisation (CTA) applications and amendments, making independent decisions on suitability for approval.
Key Responsibilities
* Work independently to carry out risk‑based assessment of data from CTA initial and amendment applications for chemical, biological or advanced therapy products, providing recommendations and decisions in line with public‑health protection.
* Prepare and present objective assessment reports and scientific papers, and provide expert input to advisory bodies.
* Manage workload and meet agency deadlines, supporting and mentoring non‑accredited medical assessors.
* Provide scientific and clinical trial expertise in advice meetings with external stakeholders and cross‑agency or external support.
* Respond to written enquiries submitted through internal customer‑facing portals and wider civil service channels.
* Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date information in agency, group and unit‑level databases.
* Contribute medical input to critical clinical trial projects and the Innovative Licensing and Access Pathway (ILAP).
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
* Participate in ad‑hoc tasks and projects as requested by managers or senior assessors.
Qualifications and Experience
* Substantial proven experience as an medical assessor in the assessment of CTA applications, making independent decisions on suitability within regulatory timelines.
* Degree in Medicine, registration with the General Medical Council and a relevant postgraduate qualification and/or experience.
* Previous experience in the assessment of clinical aspects of a CTA or marketing authorisation application.
* Demonstrated high performance, including a high throughput of work and the ability to meet deadlines.
* Experience providing scientific or regulatory advice.

Additional Information
Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check and baseline personnel security standard checks. The role has a minimum assignment duration of 3 years. Security and further security checks apply to all staff working with government assets.
