My client, a prestigious independent institution based in Central London, is seeking an experienced and proactive Estates Manager to oversee the operational management of its buildings, facilities, and wider estate.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver a long-term estates strategy aligned with organisational and sustainability goals.
• Oversee all planned and reactive maintenance programmes across multiple sites.
• Manage property compliance, health & safety, and statutory testing.
• Ensure the upkeep of historic buildings to the highest standard.
• Lead a small in-house facilities team and manage external contractors.
• Plan and deliver refurbishments, capital projects, and site improvements.
• Monitor budgets, procurement, and utilities usage, identifying opportunities for savings.
• Ensure both sites are secure, safe, and welcoming for all users.
Essential Skills & Experience
• Proven experience managing estates or facilities in a complex environment (e.g. school, university, hospital, or heritage site).
• Recognised qualification in estates, facilities, or building services (e.g. IWFM, NEBOSH, IOSH).
• Excellent knowledge of compliance and H&S regulations.
• Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills.
• Budget and contractor management experience.
• IT proficient (Microsoft 365, FM systems).
• Full clean driving licence.
Desirable
• Experience in the independent education sector or managing listed buildings.
• Project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2).
• Knowledge of sustainability and energy management.
Package
• Full-time, permanent position (occasional evenings/weekends as required).
• Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 per annum, dependent on experience.
