Overview
This post is for a Consultant Anaesthetist / Intensivist to work on the Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering anaesthesia and critical care medicine sessions with on‑call commitments covering critical care only. The post runs over a 6 week cycle with one dedicated ITU week (4 week days plus weekend) followed by 5 weeks of anaesthetics (2 days per week). Monthly consultant meetings and monthly M&M meetings are included in the job plan.
Responsibilities
* Deliver general anaesthesia for the Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals as part of an on‑site team.
* Provide critical care medicine sessions and on‑call cover for the intensive care unit.
* Participate in ITU weeks (one dedicated ITU week per 6‑week cycle) and anaesthetic weeks as scheduled (2 days per week).
* Engage in teaching and contribute to an active teaching programme and monthly M&M meetings.
* Collaborate with the 18 bed adult intensive care unit at Barnet Hospital and contribute to data collection, audit and research initiatives.
* Attend monthly consultant meetings as part of the job plan.
Role Details
* On‑call commitment: one in 12 weekday on call, and one in 6 weekends covering critical care.
* There is a well‑equipped Intensive Care Unit at Barnet Hospital divided into two wards. ITU North has 8 beds, and ITU South has 10 beds.
* The Barnet ITU has been paperless for approximately 15 years and has extensive opportunities for data collection, audit and research.
* There is an active teaching programme as well as a robust and comprehensive monthly M&M meeting.
