Director, Business Development
Lead, oversee, and support the regional Business Development team, driving sales planning, client prospecting, and product/service promotion to achieve and exceed revenue targets. Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement corporate strategies, ensuring superior customer service, staff development, and effective divisional goals aligned with the organization’s vision and mission.
Corporate and Budget Planning
* Participate in the sales and marketing strategic planning process.
* Identify future opportunities and advocate on behalf of Business Development and key stakeholders.
* Guide department budgeting and process reviews to translate strategic plans into measurable short‑ and long‑term goals.
Leadership
* Serve as a role model, motivator, and mentor to team members, ensuring adequate staffing with qualified personnel.
* Provide ongoing guidance on the promotion and delivery of sales and marketing materials that meet client needs and corporate objectives.
* Train, mentor, engage, and performance‑manage the Sales team.
* Support the issue‑resolution process and facilitate collaboration with internal stakeholders.
Business Development and Sales
* Foster and grow partner relationships to identify and pursue new business opportunities aligned with corporate goals.
* Lead business development activities, presenting, negotiating, and closing service engagements while ensuring the integrity of sales tools and processes.
Service and Process Excellence
* Collaborate with the leadership team and functional areas (e.g., Contracts) to achieve excellence in delivery, evaluate, design, and implement recommendations that reduce effort for both the team and clients while meeting regulatory and industry standards.
Qualifications
* Undergraduate university degree (Bachelor or Honors Bachelor) with 4–6 years of related experience and substantial ongoing training.
* OR College Diploma/degree with 7–9 years of experience, continuous training, and knowledge/skill upgrading.
* Previous leadership experience overseeing business development in a CRO organization is preferred.
* Significant expansion of new business, account management, and client‑facing experience required.
* Health Sciences or Business Specialty preferred.
Financial Resource Management
* Significant financial responsibility, including budget setting, autonomous expenditure decisions, and financial reporting.
Degree of Independence
* Works with very little supervision, setting priorities, pace, and determining tasks within overall responsibilities.
Contacts
* Handles large and varied contacts, often technical, complex, or difficult, requiring analysis and persuasion.
Communication Complexity
* Frequent communications addressing complex, sensitive, or escalated issues with technically complex explanations that impact the organization’s reputation.
