Join to apply for the Electrician role at City of York Council
Are you a skilled and qualified electrician looking to make a real impact in your community? Join our Building Services team at City of York Council and help us maintain safe, efficient, and high-quality electrical systems across a wide range of properties.
Based at Hazel Court, you’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in homes, schools, and public buildings. You’ll carry out inspections, fault diagnosis, and certification of installations, ensuring full compliance with BS 7671 and NICEIC standards. Your work will directly support the safety and comfort of residents and service users across the city.
This is a varied and hands-on role that requires strong technical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high standards. You’ll work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging environments, and will be expected to manage your own workload, maintain accurate records, and communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and customers.
We’re looking for someone with a recognised electrical qualification (such as NVQ Level 3 or equivalent), experience in residential and commercial settings, and a strong understanding of current regulations. A full UK driving licence is essential, and you’ll need to be comfortable working at height and in confined spaces.
If you’re passionate about delivering excellent service, take pride in your work, and want to be part of a team that values safety, quality, and community, we’d love to hear from you.
This post suitable as a job share opportunity.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development.
