Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Sexual Health Healthcare Assistant to join our team at the Leicestershire and Rutland Sexual Health Hub. Your role will involve supporting the delivery of high‑quality sexual health services to a diverse patient population, performing non-invasive clinical tasks such as taking histories, processing samples, and providing sexual health education while safeguarding confidentiality.
Main Responsibilities
* Follow all policies and protocols, reporting any concerns to lead nurses or the administration manager.
* Provide first point of contact to patients requiring asymptomatic screening management.
* Undertake necessary tests including phlebotomy, urinalysis and instruction to patients regarding self-testing for STIs and long-term conditions such as HIV.
* Be willing to undergo further training that will enhance service delivery and improve outcomes for patients.
* Assist with microscopy following approved training and report findings to the responsible clinician.
* Assist with the correct collection and recording of specimens.
* Offer advice and education on safe sex practices and further help where needed.
* Perform condom demonstration to clients and explain the importance of education.
* Perform pregnancy testing and urinalysis following instruction from clinical colleagues.
* Assist clinical staff as necessary, including recording blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent).
* Care Certificate (desirable).
Experience & Knowledge
* Recent experience working in a patient-facing or customer service setting.
* Previous experience within a sexual health service (desirable).
* Understanding of confidentiality, privacy and dignity in care.
* Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusive practices.
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent verbal and written communication, particularly with patients, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
* Able to provide individualized, empathetic care to patients.
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise workload independently.
* Attention to detail and commitment to high standards of care.
Personal Qualities
* Flexible and adaptable to changing service demands, including evenings, weekends and outreach clinics.
* Calm under pressure with the ability to adjust to a fast‑paced environment.
* Trustworthy, patient and compassionate.
* Professional and respectful approach to patient interactions.
Other Requirements
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between clinic bases and outreach locations.
