About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Finance Manager to lead and strengthen our organisation's financial operations. You will manage budgets, ensure compliance, and provide clear financial insights to support decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the charity sector.

Key Responsibilites

Financial Strategy and Planning

* Develop and oversee the organisation's financial strategy in line with overall goals.
* Prepare, monitor, and review budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
* Provide accurate and timely financial analysis to support decisions.
* Advise management on financial issues and contribute to strategic planning.

Financial Reporting and Compliance

* Prepare and submit annual accounts to Companies House and the Charity Commission.
* Ensure compliance with Charity SORP, HMRC regulations, VAT, and the Charities Act 2011.
* Work with external auditors, ensuring all documentation is complete and submitted on time.

Operational Finance Management

* Oversee all day-to-day finance operations, including:
* Posting items and transactions on accounting software.
* Preparing management accounts and monthly/quarterly reconciliations.
* Managing accounts payable and receivable.
* Raising invoices and chasing payments.
* Processing VAT returns.
* Produce financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
* Monitor cashflow, implement cost control measures, and track financial performance.
* Oversee payroll, employee benefits, pension schemes, and HMRC submissions.

Stakeholder Engagement

* Present clear financial information to trustees, staff, donors, and regulators.
* Build strong relationships with funders, including Trusts, Foundations, and government programmes.
* Support donor relations with transparent financial reporting.

Leadership and Team Support

* Keep financial policies and procedures up-to-date and ensure they are followed.
* Provide training and guidance to staff on finance processes.
* Work collaboratively across the organisation to improve financial practice.

Essential Skills and Experience

* Proven experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or similar organisation.
* Strong knowledge of UK charity finance, regulations, and funding.
* Skilled in preparing budgets, forecasts, management accounts, and reconciliations.
* Experience in VAT returns, invoicing, and credit control.
* Advanced user of accounting software (Xero, Sage, Quickbooks) and Excel.
* Excellent communication skills, able to explain finance clearly to non-finance colleagues.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Desirable Skills

* Recognised accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent).
* Experience working with Charity SORP and charity-specific compliance.
* Knowledge of grant management and donor reporting.
