About Halas Homes

Halas Homes is a registered charity that supports adults with learning disabilities to live full, independent, and meaningful lives. We provide residential care, supported living, day opportunities, and community engagement through our day centre and Halas Academy.

The Halas Academy is our learning and development arm — designed to empower people to gain essential life skills, build confidence, and prepare for greater independence or employment. From cooking and budgeting to travel training and digital literacy, our goal is to help every person realise their potential.

Role Purpose

As a Life Skills and Employability Instructor, you'll be at the heart of this exciting stage of growth for Halas Academy. You will design and deliver engaging, practical learning sessions that promote independence, build employability, and inspire confidence among adults with learning disabilities.

Your role will help shape our future education and training framework — supporting our vision to be a national advocate for people with learning disabilities through creativity, inclusion, and empowerment.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan, deliver, and review structured learning sessions that develop life and work skills, including:
* Cooking, meal planning, and healthy eating
* Shopping, budgeting, and money management
* Travel and transport training (using buses, reading timetables, safety awareness)
* Housekeeping and personal organisation
* Communication, teamwork, and employability skills (CV writing, timekeeping, interviews)
* Using technology to support independence and learning
* Support individuals and small groups to set personal goals, celebrate achievements, and build confidence.
* Adapt sessions to meet a wide range of learning abilities and communication needs.
* Work collaboratively with the Day Services team to embed the Academy into Halas Homes' wider community offer.
* Contribute ideas to develop new programmes and partnerships with colleges, local businesses, and community organisations.
* Maintain accurate attendance, progress, and outcome records in line with internal quality systems.
* Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment, following safeguarding and equality procedures.
* Promote the values of Dignity, Unity in Action, and Empowerment in all aspects of the role.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines compassion, creativity, and initiative with a genuine commitment to empowering adults with learning disabilities.

Essential Criteria

* Experience supporting or teaching adults with learning disabilities.
* Ability to plan, deliver, and adapt sessions to individual needs and learning styles.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a positive, inclusive approach.
* Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, and promoting independence.
* Able to work flexibly and collaboratively as part of a team.
* Basic IT skills and confidence using technology in a learning environment.

Desirable Criteria

* Experience in teaching, training, or coaching roles (formal or informal).
* Background in catering, hospitality, or employability training.
* Experience supporting individuals into volunteering, work placements, or community participation.
* Recognised teaching or training qualification (e.g., PTLLS, Level 3 Award in Education and Training).
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to support travel training.

What We Offer

* A friendly, inclusive, and supportive workplace.
* Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
* The chance to play a key role in shaping the future of Halas Academy.
* A role that makes a visible difference in people's lives every day.

Our Values

* Dignity – Respecting every individual's rights, privacy, and identity.
* Unity in Action – Working together to achieve meaningful outcomes.
* Empowerment – Encouraging people to take control of their lives and futures.

Our behaviours — Innovate, Model, Celebrate — define how we bring those values to life.
