MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To carry out the safe and efficient removal, refit, and replacement of mechanical, electrical, and trim components on damaged vehicles in line with repair methods, manufacturer guidance, and company quality standards.
The MET Technician is responsible for ensuring vehicles are dismantled and reassembled correctly to support the repair process, while identifying any additional damage, maintaining high technical standards, and ensuring all repairs are completed safely, accurately, and within agreed timescales.
All work must be completed in accordance with the repair estimate, current repair methods, health and safety requirements, and company procedures. Any deviation from the estimate, repair method, or parts requirement must be reported immediately to the relevant manager or estimator.
QUALIFIED/ NON-QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN EXPECTATIONS
Qualified MET Technician
A qualified MET Technician is expected to complete work independently to the required technical, safety, and quality standards. This may also include supporting, guiding, and, where appropriate, supervising less experienced or non-qualified technicians.
Non-Qualified MET Technician
A non-qualified or trainee MET Technician will carry out duties appropriate to their level of skill, training, and experience, under the direction and supervision of a qualified technician or manager.
MAIN TASKS
Vehicle Dismantling & Reassembly
* Dismantle damaged vehicles in line with repair estimates, repair methods, and job instructions.
* Reassemble vehicles to manufacturer and company standards, ensuring all components are correctly refitted and operational.
* Remove and refit mechanical, electrical, and trim components safely and efficiently.
* Ensure all work is completed in line with technical repair requirements and site procedures.
Inspection & Repair Process Support
* Identify and report any additional damage, missing parts, or repair requirements discovered during dismantling or rebuilding.
* Immediately notify the estimator, workshop controller, or manager of any deviation from the original repair estimate or method.
* Support an efficient repair process by ensuring vehicles are stripped and rebuilt in a way that avoids unnecessary delays.
* Assist in ensuring repair progress remains on schedule and that all work is completed within agreed timescales where reasonably achievable.
Parts & Materials
* Check that all parts required for repair are available and match the repair estimate before or during reassembly.
* Promptly report any missing, incorrect, damaged, or additional parts requirements.
* Ensure unused or replaced parts are handled in accordance with company procedures and returned to the parts department where applicable.
* Ensure any safety-related items, fixings, clips, and replacement components are suitable, in date where applicable, and fit for purpose.
Quality & Safety
Carry out work to a high technical and cosmetic standard, ensuring all components are fitted correctly and securely.
Complete quality checks in line with company procedures before passing vehicles to the next repair stage or final handover.
Ensure all safety-critical systems and components are refitted correctly and in accordance with repair methods and manufacturer guidance.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness in the work area.
Electrical/ Mechanical Systems
Refit and reconnect vehicle electrical and mechanical systems as required within the scope of the role.
Ensure all removed and refitted components are tested or checked where required before completion.
Report any faults, concerns, or issues relating to vehicle systems immediately.
OTHER DUTIES
Due to the size and complexity of the establishment, you will undertake any other reasonable tasks or duties that are deemed to be within your capability, as directed by a senior manager of the group with whom you have a reporting relationship.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
* Experience in vehicle dismantling and reassembly within an accident repair or automotive environment
* Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and trim components
* Ability to work on repair methods, estimates, and technical instructions
* Good attention to detail and quality standards
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Good awareness of workshop health and safety responsibilities
Desirable
IMI Accreditation in MET
Experience working in a bodyshop or accident repair centre
Familiarity with modern vehicle systems, safety systems, and manufacturer repair methods
PAY AND BENEFITS:
Salary will be discussed during the interview and will depend on experience and qualifications. The role includes site bonus opportunities.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience is essential and a IMI Accreditation is preferred.
Hours are 8am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 30-minute lunch break.
