Position Overview

Are you a clinician with a passion for remote or expedition medicine, ready to inspire the next generation of expedition medics? This part‑time lecturer role (1 day per week) is based within the Peninsula Medical School at the University of Plymouth, contributing to a newly developed MSc in Expedition and Marine Medicine. The programme builds on the School’s long history of remote medicine teaching and the University’s strengths in health and marine sciences, preparing clinicians for practice across some of the world’s most demanding environments. Developed in close partnership with Endeavour Medical, the course blends rigorous academic teaching with adventurous, situational skills‑based learning, and you will play a central role in bringing that vision to life.

Due to the nature of the role, working from home is not accommodated.

Responsibilities

* Lead core modules such as Mountain and Polar Expedition Medicine, Marine Medicine, and Human Factors in Extreme Environments, integrating classroom theory with practical, scenario‑based skills sessions.
* Help manage residential placements on Dartmoor and the Cornish coast, as well as an international expedition to the mountains of Morocco, in partnership with Endeavour Medical.
* Support students in developing individual research dissertation projects with an expedition or marine medicine focus.
* Contribute to the ongoing growth and quality of the programme.
* Provide pastoral support and academic guidance to a cohort of clinicians and allied health professionals studying at Masters level.

Requirements

* Practising clinician or healthcare professional with direct, hands‑on experience of working in remote or austere environments.
* Master’s degree in a relevant discipline, or actively working toward completion of one.
* Strong organisational and logistical skills, capable of managing complex multi‑site placements across challenging terrain.
* Collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams, alongside industry partners and University colleagues.
* Ability to be flexible with the allocated time to accommodate set teaching and assessment weeks.
* Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check plus an Adult’s Barred List check required for the role.

Benefits

* Generous annual leave: 35 days pro rata if part‑time, plus bank holidays and closure days.
* Generous pension scheme (subject to eligibility).
* Cycle to Work and Electric Car Scheme.
* Employee Assistance Programme.
* Development opportunities.
* Enhanced family leave.
* Flexible working.
* Retailer discounts.
* On‑site nursery.

Equal Opportunity Statement
