This Assistant Planner - LPN will report to the Project Controls and Data Excellence Manager and will work within the Capital Programme based in our London, Bidder Street office. You will be a permanent employee.
The assistant planner manages and maintains lower value projects assigned under the guidance of planners/lead planners in the team. They support the delivery team (Programme Managers, Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Designers, Consents, and more) to record progress, costs, and forecast milestones, activities, and costs using their knowledge of project controls and P6 activity planning/cost forecasting. Assistant planners also shadow and support lead planners on major projects, developing their capabilities to independently manage large projects. They will undertake a Level 3 Project Controls Apprenticeship to deepen their knowledge of project controls and planning practices.
P6 is the primary tool for reporting within the UKPN Capital Programme, used for forecasting project costs, activities, and milestones, and recording actual costs to date. As part of the planning team, the assistant planner ensures data integrity, accurate recording of actual costs, and realistic forecasts for project milestones and activities.
Principal Accountabilities
1. Manage and maintain lower value projects under guidance.
2. Learn and improve skills in Primavera P6 for managing major projects through self-led learning.
3. Maintain schedules in Primavera P6 consistent with UK Power Networks standards.
4. Ensure schedules meet the standards outlined in the Project Control Handbook.
5. Provide accurate programme data to support UK Power Networks' project control requirements and Earned Value Management reporting.
6. Keep programme plans current and aligned with reporting schedules.
7. Assist in assessing schedule impacts of proposed changes and integrating approved changes.
8. Support other planners in overseeing major projects.
9. Contribute to schedule risk analysis as required.
10. Collaborate with Lead Planners to manage data entry for costs and progress across assigned projects.
11. Encourage project partners to submit progress updates and milestone achievements.
12. Ensure compliance with UK Power Networks' project delivery and governance procedures.
13. Identify and flag schedule anomalies or data errors.
14. Coordinate schedule interfaces and obtain project team support for schedule updates.
15. Work with the commercial and finance teams to ensure data consistency across systems (SAP, Unifier, P6).
16. Undertake the Level 3 Project Controls Apprenticeship, managing project data entry, cost loading, and progress updates across the programme.
17. Support wider P6 planning workforce with data entry and professional development in project planning, management, and earned value management.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
Managers and supervisors are responsible for health and safety compliance, including briefing individuals, ensuring understanding and application of safety and environmental controls, and managing risks associated with their activities.
Qualifications and Experience
* GCSE Maths and English grade 5 or higher (or equivalent).
* Foundation qualification in project management/control (desirable).
* Knowledge of work scheduling for construction projects, experience with Primavera P6 or similar tools.
* Understanding of Earned Value Management principles.
* Ability to work with multiple team members and ensure timely data updates.
* Familiarity with database principles and data organization.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Proficiency with Office software (Project, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
The role offers a salary of £43,904, a 3% bonus, and blended working after 6 months (3 days in the office, 2 remote). Additional benefits include 25 days annual leave, reservist leave, pension contributions, loan schemes, health support, and discounts.
