NEOS Engineering are partnered with a leading player in the UK’s flexible energy sector, supporting the transition towards a cleaner and more resilient power network.
They’re on the hunt for an experienced and forward-thinking Operations Manager to take ownership of a regional portfolio of flexible power generation sites. These include gas reciprocating engines and battery storage assets ranging from 2–50 MWe across multiple voltage levels. Are you a seasoned Operations Manager with solid experience in power generation, gas engines, or BESS?
This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a mix of hands-on technical leadership, commercial awareness, and strategic operations management across multi-site portfolios.
Key Responsibilities:
• Put health and safety front and centre, making sure every site operates to the highest standards.
• Oversee the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of plant and equipment across your region.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Operations Engineers, driving accountability and strong performance.
• Maximise asset uptime and availability, stepping in with technical support on complex maintenance or unplanned breakdowns.
• Maintain accurate records, spare parts inventories, and maintenance data using internal systems and CMMS tools.
• Tackle operational and technical issues quickly, escalating concerns where required.
• Track performance against budgets and KPIs, reporting variances and implementing corrective actions.
• Communicate clearly with internal teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
• Select, manage, and review external contractors and suppliers.
• Provide maintenance support to customers when needed.
• Support the safe and efficient handover of new sites from Construction into Operations.
• Always comply with company policies and procedural frameworks across H&S, Quality, and Environmental standards.
• Carry out additional duties in line with the role’s purpose where required.
Principal Skills:
• Strong engineering background, ideally with gas engine experience (MWM, MTU, Jenbacher, or CAT).
• Ability to foster urgency, ownership, and accountability within your team.
• Proactive, well-organised, and able to balance hands-on technical work with operational admin.
• Experience managing supply chains for engine parts and services.
• Confident communicator, especially when discussing technical issues with senior management.
Essential
• Deep understanding of gas engine systems, controls, and management.
• Extensive experience with internal combustion engines, ideally within base-load or flexible power environments.
• Strong leadership skills and a collaborative, hands-on approach.
• ONC level or equivalent OR time-served in Plant Engineering or another relevant discipline.
Desirable
• Exposure to data analytics within maintenance or engineering settings.
• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
• Understanding of three-phase electrical systems.
• CMMS proficiency.
• CITB Competence Scheme Card.
• IOSH Working Safely.
