The Black Swan has been a beacon of warmth and hospitality for centuries, offering travellers a timeless retreat in Helmsley. Originally a vital stop for stagecoach passengers between Leeds and York, this historic inn dates back to the 15th century. Its unique charm is reflected in its architectural tapestry—an Elizabethan end, a Tudor structure, and a Georgian house—creating a characterful, higgledy-piggledy gem.
As Sous Chef, you’ll be central to our kitchen, ensuring every dish showcases fresh, quality ingredients and meets our high standards. Working closely with the Head Chef, you’ll help maintain excellence, bringing skill and creativity to the role.
You will manage a talented team, contribute to menu development and costing, and shape the guest experience. Your ability to stay calm under pressure and meet deadlines is essential. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships across the kitchen, front-of-house, and management, ensuring seamless collaboration.
Your operational responsibilities include stock control, ordering from suppliers, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. In the Head Chef’s absence, you’ll confidently manage the team and daily operations.
