Head of Building Services
Leading Independent School
South East London
£70,000 + excellent benefits
Tired of chasing reactive maintenance? Here, you’ll shape the long-term plan.
If you’re an experienced building services expert frustrated by slow processes, legacy systems or a lack of strategic input, this is your moment.
This leading co-educational independent school educates children aged 4–18 across a large, multi-building campus in South London. It’s a place steeped in history, but what’s exciting right now is the future.
They’re investing heavily: upgrading assets, embedding sustainability, and future-proofing the estate for generations to come. They’ve also recently expanded their group with the addition of another school, with more growth on the horizon.
Your role? To be the driving force behind engineering excellence.
As Head of Building Services, you’ll take technical ownership of MEP services across the estate. You’ll shape how the school manages the lifecycle of its critical assets, ask the right questions of contractors, hold people to account, and bring a strategic lens to every project.
There’s no “this is how we’ve always done it” mindset here. You’ll work alongside a modern, values-led senior team who want your challenge, energy and ideas.
Importantly, you won’t be buried in line management. You’ll oversee the M&E contract, but with no direct reports, you’ll have the headspace to be both strategic and operational, building strong relationships with stakeholders across the school and external partners.
What’s in it for you:
* 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays + Christmas closure
* 6.5% employer pension contribution + income protection
* Health care plans, enhanced family leave, and fee remission (up to 85%)
* Free lunch, gym and pool access
* Discounts at partner schools
* Cycle-to-work and tech schemes
You’ll need a strong background in building services, with a relevant degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent experience). But more than that, we’re looking for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, thrives on autonomy, and sees the value of high-performing school estates.
