NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.
The role:
Children and Family Services are responsible for the safe and effective delivery of all Health and Social care services for children and young people provided by or commissioned by both NHSGGC and the Local Authority to support the national GIRFEC driver. The Children & Family Teams, which include a range of nursing and related support staff, provide multi professional health services to children & families across a geographical area of a HSCP. These services include assessment and support of children, families and young people up to age 19 years, promoting mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. They may be delivered across a range of settings, e.g. in the home, school or community. Following assessment, allocation of case work to Core, Additional or Intensive HPI will be carried out in order that services can be targeted to the most vulnerable children and families. There will be provision of support / referral in relation to child protection, domestic abuse and substance misuse and also to health promotion in relation to e.g. Smoking Cessation, Infant feeding (working closely with Community Midwifery) and support for childhood immunisation. Children & Families Health teams will work in collaboration with Health Improvement colleagues and other agencies to address Health Inequalities.

Key responsibilities:
1. To work collaboratively with the Service Manager and Practice Development staff to facilitate, lead, support and co-ordinate the development of staff within their team ensuring that an ethos of shared responsibility and joint working is embedded in practice.
2. Undertake the leadership and management of the team and develop an effective and positive team environment.
3. Ensure communication systems verbal and electronic are clear and effective at all levels.
4. Through supervision and collection of statistical information, monitor and review resources, activity and caseload management with colleagues across the HSCP, and system as required.
5. Directly supervise their team and use this supervision to identify areas of good practice or concern. This includes clinical supervision where professionally appropriate.
6. Ensure that staff within their service are clinically skilled and appropriately supported to manage Safeguarding issues.
7. Ensure along with the university and PEF that effective arrangements are in place for student and qualified nurse placements for pre and post registration students.
8. Promote and work effectively in partnership across Child & Family Teams and other agencies to tackle health inequalities and public health issues.
9. Identify and manage all staff capability and performance issues including attendance management.
10. Ensure that the team maintain up to date and accurate records that comply with current data collection requirements and meet legal & professional standards (NMC& NHSGG&C). Provide written reports as requested and complete statistical returns in accordance with policy requirement.
11. Ensure system in place for undertaking KSF PDPs with the staff in the team including annual PDP reviews and monitor this to ensure that KSF PDP and eKSF targets are delivered.
12. Ensure corporate and profession specific induction of new staff within their team.
13. Work within legal and professional guidelines(NMC), policies and procedures of NHSGG&C and ensure that these are implemented by the team this includes for instance implementation of the Integrated Assessment Framework and compliance with Child Protection procedures.
14. Identify key risk areas and ensure action is taken to minimise risk wherever possible.
15. Together with the Service Manager and Practice Development staff lead on reviews of clinical effectiveness and development/implementation of best practice guidelines, clinical care pathways and clinical audit and evaluation of services within Children & Family Teams.
16. Contribute to patient and public involvement activities, including developing service information for children and families, user satisfaction surveys and focus groups etc.
17. Support the Service Manager in dealing with complaints and incidents within Children and Families Teams, undertaking investigations and preparing responses for the Service Manager, in line with the NHSGG&C complaints policy.
18. Represent HSCP Childrens Services when required at multi agency meetings and working groups.
19. Work with senior management to interpret and implement national and local policies relevant to the clinical area identifying implications for the Children and Families Teams.
20. Participate in the planning of future health improvement and immunisation campaigns across NHSGG&C.
21. Ensure effective interfaces with Acute Services e.g. A&E Staff and also Community Midwifery (to enable delivery of breastfeeding targets).
22. Liaise as appropriate with local GP practices and GP Clusters if requested
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
23. First level Registered Nurse/ Midwife with a currently valid registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
24. Post registration qualification in Health Visiting/Public Health Nursing
25. Relevant post registration experience as a PHN/Health Visitor/School Nurse
26. Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience
27. Working knowledge of relevant legislation in relation to Child Protection, Childrens Act, Police Act and Vulnerable adults
28. Evidence of continuing professional development
29. Excellent communication skills written & verbal
30. Leadership & management qualifications or experience
31. Skills to plan and organise complex activities, programmes, projects and implementation of change.
