About This Opportunity

Cumberland Council is looking for welcoming and proactive individuals to join our Libraries and Customer Services team. We currently have three Library and Customer Assistant vacancies available across various locations, with a range of working hours to suit different lifestyles.

As a Library and Customer Assistant, you’ll be the first point of contact for visitors, supporting them with everything from borrowing books and using digital services to accessing council information and attending community events. You’ll also help deliver engaging activities, maintain library stock, and ensure a safe, inclusive environment for all.

We’re looking for people with great communication skills, a positive attitude, and experience in face-to-face customer service. Confidence with digital technology and a genuine interest in reading and learning are essential. In return, you’ll be part of a supportive team that values community impact, with opportunities to work across different locations and contribute to a vibrant, evolving service.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about libraries, community engagement, and helping others use both print and digital resources. If you’re friendly, proactive, and love working with people of all ages, we would be keen to hear from you!

Contract Details & Working Arrangements

These roles are available on a permanent basis. In some locations, you will usually be the sole member of library staff onsite and will be responsible for the service and building during working hours. Flexible working is not available as the hours are fixed to when the Libraries are open.
