Job Overview

As the Divisional Director for Nursing and AHPs for the Diagnostic Centre you will be responsible for the strategic, professional and operational leadership across a portfolio of services. Working with the Director of Nursing and the Divisional Triumvirate to deliver high‑quality safe and person‑centred care and supporting the wellbeing of our teams, the post holder will be an integral member of the Divisional Senior Management Team and will be responsible for delivering the Division's nursing strategy in conjunction with the Trust’s overall strategy.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead and line‑manage the Division’s senior nursing staff, including recruitment, selection, supervision, direction, performance management, appraisal and continuing professional development.
* Oversee the budgets for all clinical pay spend – including bank and agency staff costs and controls – and for clinical non‑pay activities.
* Provide comprehensive leadership to support the progression, development and positive reputation of the clinical professionals within the diagnostic treatment centre.
* Actively develop and improve professional and corporate standards, policies and procedures.
* Act as a senior officer of the Trust in relation to the overall business of the organisation.
* Ensure delivery of the Division’s strategy in conjunction with the Trust’s overall strategy.
* Work closely with the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Director of Operations to provide robust professional leadership, guidance, advice, support and direction to clinical professionals across the Division.
* Practice in a way that enables initiative, exercise autonomy and make decisions whilst keeping the Divisional Medical Director and Director of Operations informed as appropriate.
* Provide a highly visible, accessible and authoritative presence to support the Trust’s overall objectives and service priorities.
* Lead and manage the operational Allied Health Professional and nursing function of the Division to the highest professional standards.
* Ensure that work is carried out in the best interest of patients, carers, families and the wider organisation, in line with professional standards and codes of conduct.
* Work in accordance with the Trust’s strategic direction, objectives and policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines.
* Act as the Trust’s ambassador, ensuring that you and others represent and practice to the highest professional standards at all times.
* Maintain and develop your knowledge, skills and competence, and inform the Director of Nursing of any professional limitations or concerns.
* Deliver personal, service and corporate objectives, and provide active and transformational leadership.
* Support AHP and nursing groups to enable staff to work to the full potential of their roles and grades.
* Co‑operate with peers and Divisional teams to ensure efficient utilisation of nursing resources to meet clinical and non‑clinical priorities.
* Ensure the safety and well‑being of patients, service users and colleagues, taking corrective actions to prevent any deterioration in service standards.
* Develop positive working relationships with other clinicians and managers to keep the organisation at the forefront of best practice and service delivery.
* Support the delivery of the Quality Strategy for the Division and participate in all regulatory assessments and reviews.
* Improve information sourcing and use to evidence and improve care delivery and outcomes.
* Be a resource for all staff on professional and operational matters.
* Be actively involved with service lines to ensure patient needs are met and their views are used to inform improvements in practice and care.
* Analyse highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, in verbal, written or presentation formats, and produce high‑quality reports, including Trust Board reports.
* Provide professional advice, support, challenge, scrutiny and decision‑making as required for clinical professionals and other directors, senior managers and staff across the Division.
* Attend meetings at director, Board and external levels, seminars, hearings, briefings and investigations, both within and outside the Trust as required.
* Utilise extensive nursing experience to support staff in delivering high‑quality, efficient and effective patient care.
* Promote evidence‑based practice and use evidence to support modern and appropriate care.
* Maintain your professional knowledge and competence to meet registration standards and role requirements.
* Employ sophisticated leadership techniques to challenge practice standards and influence constructive positive change.
* Analyse complex issues, information and situations and take necessary corrective action.
* Provide comprehensive advice and support in dealing with complex concerns, complaints, clinical and critical incidents, including chairing hearing panels and leading investigations.
* Provide professional support and advice to Heads of Therapies (Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics, Speech & Language Therapy and Dietetics).
* Use high‑level literacy, numeracy and analytical skills in report compilation and information/data management.
* Lead senior clinical workforce, ensuring quality appraisals and use of HR policies, and plan and implement changes to clinical practice to improve patient care.
* Plan and facilitate discussions and debates with professional colleagues at all levels to address challenges.
* Organise the annual programmes and timetables for the corporate senior nurse forum.
* Interpret relevant national and professional policy and translate into local implementation where appropriate.
* Implement policy and service development within the Division.
* Deliver the Trust’s Nursing Strategy within the Division on behalf of the Director of Nursing.
* Work with the Divisional Triumvirate, the Trust and partners across health and social care for seamless patient care services, particularly during transfers and receiving patients from other organisations.
* Support the annual business plan for the division.
* Work with the Director of Nursing and other Directors to develop modern and innovative workforce strategies that maximise the nursing workforce, establish new roles and realise its full potential in line with the Trust’s workforce plan.
* Contribute to the evolution of the merged Trust and its operation, ensuring high‑quality and reputable nursing care into the future.
* Support enhanced working relationships with higher education institutes.
* Manage and archive information securely, ensuring patient confidentiality and compliance with corporate and national policy and professional standards.
* Summarise complex data into easy‑to‑understand reports and summaries.
