Do you want to be part of a team improving the way adult mental health care is delivered in the community? Are you looking for a varied role with the opportunity to work autonomously?

The Mental Health Integrated Network Team (MINT) is a community-based service supporting people with their mental and physical health, as well as their social care needs. In this role, you will enhance your skills through autonomous clinical decision-making, assessment and treatment of mental and physical health needs, as well as reviewing and managing risk and crisis situations while working closely with multidisciplinary teams and services. Clinicians are also encouraged and supported to be involved in ongoing service development projects.

We work closely with local GP practices, primary care networks, social services, the voluntary sector, and other organisations to provide collaborative interventions that support joined-up, personalised treatment and care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for either an RMN with some prior community experience and a keen interest in providing outstanding support within community mental health settings.

Main duties of the job

The nursing role involves a number of elements that support people with both mental and physical health conditions who are referred to our service. Interventions may be delivered on an individual, group, or team basis, with the aim of supporting service users to live as independently as possible while managing their mental and physical health needs.

The role also focuses on providing holistic support to help individuals engage with their local communities and access the wide range of services and resources available to them.

The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team covering a Primary Care Network (PCN) or locality and will also work across networks, contributing to the development of a truly innovative and forward-thinking support structure.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Professional qualification in mental health - Mental Health Nursing (RMN) with current NMC registration, or registration with Social Work England for qualified social workers.
2. Attained at least Level 2 Maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade 9-4 (A*-C))

Desirable criteria

3. Educated to degree or Diploma level with other courses relevant to primary care mental health services e.g. CBT, Brief Solution Focussed Therapy etc.
4. RGN/physical health qualification
5. Evidence of recent and on-going relevant further professional development

Experience

Essential criteria

6. Demonstrable experience of post qualifying work in psychiatry.
7. Experience of supervising junior staff within own and/or other disciplines

Desirable criteria

8. Evidence of experience in a Band 6 position or equivalent
9. Other relevant post registration experience
10. Audit and research experience
11. Experience of teaching/training in a formal or informal setting
12. Experience of working in a primary care setting/ social care/ voluntary sector

Knowledge

Essential criteria

13. Knowledge of counselling skills/cognitive behavioural skills, psychosocial interventions
14. Knowledge of recovery approaches as used with those with mental health conditions
15. Ability to interpret research and apply to practice
16. Specialist knowledge of mental health conditions as well as their relationship to physical disorders
17. Assessment and treatment of Deliberate Self Harm
18. Risk assessment/management and crisis intervention skills
19. Use of psychosocial assessment methods
20. Higher level communication skills, both written and oral
21. Ability to engage challenging and/or acutely distressed patients in potentially hostile and/or antagonistic situations and use de-escalation techniques effectively
22. Sufficient clinical knowledge to be able to make autonomous decisions, based on an analysis of complex presenting problems and judgement about available options, with senior clinical support/supervision
23. Team/self management and organisation skills that enable a number of complex activities and clinical work to be undertaken, revising and adjusting these according to the needs of individual patients and the service
24. Computer literate

25. Ability to frequently work under pressure and maintain intense concentration, particularly in unpredictable situations where there will be exposure to highly distressed and/or disturbed patients, often exhibiting challenging behaviours and the risk of physical violence.
