Our client, a leading UK professional services firm is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join its Information Systems function at a pivotal stage in its data transformation programme. With legacy BI infrastructure approaching end‑of‑life, the firm is undertaking a strategic migration to Microsoft Fabric. This role will be central to delivering that transition and shaping the future enterprise data platform.
The Opportunity
This is a hands‑on engineering role with strong stakeholder exposure and real influence over data architecture and reporting strategy.
You will:
* Support the migration from SAP BW to Microsoft Fabric
* Design, build and maintain scalable data ingestion pipelines
* Implement ETL/ELT processes using Fabric Data Pipelines and/or Azure Data Factory
* Develop robust Finance, HR and Commercial data models
* Create and maintain a gold‑standard reporting and semantic layer
* Embed strong data governance and security standards (including UK GDPR compliance)
* Promote engineering best practice, documentation and knowledge sharing
* Support team capability development
This is an opportunity to play a key role in building a modern Lakehouse architecture aligned to a long‑term Data Strategy.
About You
* Proven data engineering experience in an enterprise environment
* Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Fabric or Azure‑based data platforms
* Strong SQL and Python transformation capability
* Solid understanding of data modelling and Lakehouse principles
* Experience working in agile teams
* Strong communicator, able to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Technical Environment
* Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Delta, Dataflows, Semantic Models)
* Azure Data Factory
* SQL (including optimisation and performance tuning)
* Python / PySpark
* SAP data sources (advantageous)
* Git & CI/CD for analytics
* Medallion architecture & dimensional modelling
* RBAC and enterprise data governance frameworks
