Role Overview
Could you be a Sense Education Support Worker? We now have opportunities for Education Support Workers to join our Sense College in Bedford. This is a permanent role, 14 hours per week, Monday and Wednesday, 9 am‑4.30 pm, across 39 weeks of the year. The role involves providing a person‑centred approach to meet communication, information and mobility needs for individuals who have dual or single sensory impairment, learning disability and/or autism. You will support learners to be as involved as possible in every part of their day‑to‑day lives so that they can be full and active members of society.
Responsibilities
* Support individuals and groups within the centre and community.
* Assist learners with core funded educational needs under the guidance of senior education colleagues.
* Maintain continuous professional development (CPD).
* Represent the college at external professional development events for support workers.
* Contribute to Individual Learning Plans/targets and monitor their progress.
* Play a key role in ongoing assessment of learners.
* Provide a customised, responsive and high‑quality service to people with multiple sensory impairments, physical and/or learning disabilities who use Sense services.
* Deliver services that meet or exceed organisational expectations and standards.
Required Skills and Experience
* Previous experience of working with people who have a sensory impairment, autism or learning disability is an advantage.
* Knowledge of BSL, Makaton or other methods of communication is a plus; training will be provided.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team while demonstrating initiative.
* Experience of person‑centred planning, record keeping and providing personal care.
* Level 2 (or equivalent) in English and Maths is an essential requirement.
