About The Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing Executive to join our Marketing & Communications Team in Glasgow (Hybrid). In this role, you will support the Marketing and Communication Team to deliver effective digital communications and marketing campaigns both internally and externally. This will be delivered by managing social media engagement and creating relevant, results-driven content across corporate and consumer work streams. The role will support the promotion, growth and reputation of Scotland’s canal network. This role will play a key part in delivering integrated marketing campaigns, with a strong emphasis on digital marketing, social media engagement, content creation, and visual storytelling. The role will be responsible for promoting transit licences, visitor destinations, events, and commercial opportunities across the canal estate — including flagship attractions such as The Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies — while also showcasing the broader lifestyle, tourism, and economic value of Scotland’s canals and surrounding communities. The role is offered on a permanent basis, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday (occasional weekend working).
Primary Responsibilities Of The Role
* Plan, implement, and optimise digital marketing campaigns across web, email, paid media, and social platforms.
* Responsible for monitoring online trends and social sentiment to update and advise the organisation on risks to reputation or opportunities.
* Creating basic video content (filming and editing) for use across Scottish Canals channels for digital campaigns, reels and promotional storytelling.
* Supporting the delivery of new video and photography from Scottish Canals contractors within agreed budgets.
* Creation and updates of Scottish Canals website pages.
* Supporting internal communications through content creation.
* Providing a first line response to Scottish Canals communication and filming inboxes.
* Creating and execute paid for and organic campaigns to achieve set goals – income generation, awareness raising
* Basic graphic design support for across the organisations using tools such as Canva (or similar).
* Engage with online communities to increase reach, brand affinity, and visitor engagement.
* Monitor performance using analytics tools and provide regular reporting with clear ROI evaluation and recommendations.
* Develop engaging content calendars aligned with seasonal activity, events, and campaigns.

* Creating basic marketing plans and strategies for various organisational projects and income generating assets.
* Work collaboratively with internal teams to translate key messages into compelling visual narratives.
* Promote the broader tourism, heritage, and regeneration value of Scotland’s canals.
* Contribute to marketing initiatives that position the canal network as a national asset for leisure, culture, and economic development.
Qualifications and knowledge required
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across canal sites.
* Ordinary Degree (HNC/D may be considered dependant on the right candidate) or equivalent relevant experience in a related marketing discipline.
Skills And Experience Required
* Strong written communication skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
* Excellent content planning, development, delivery & evaluation skills.
* Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Canva, Illustrator, Photoshop; video editing tools such as Premiere Pro or similar).
* Be proficient in using web-based platforms and social media platforms including: Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn/Instagram.
* Experience in filming, editing, and producing high-quality digital video content.
* Understanding of paid media campaigns and audience targeting.
* Proficiency with Office 365 suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
* Evaluate campaigns/output via
* Google Analytics, media monitoring tools and social media platforms, such as Hootsuite.
* Understanding of paid media campaigns and audience targeting.
* Familiarity with stakeholder engagement in public sector or third-sector environments.
* An understanding of Scottish Canals role as a Non-Departmental Public Body.
* Previous experience in creating effective social media, marketing campaigns.
* Ability to meet deadlines and juggle work-based demands.
