Job Description
1:1 Support, Long-Term Role
Primary School - Autism Experience Essential
Are you a confident, patient and committed SEND Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding long-term role where you can genuinely make a difference? Reed Education is working with a warm and supportive primary school in the Pontefract (WF9) area, and they are seeking a strong, experienced SEND TA to join their team immediately after the Easter break.
If you’re someone who thrives on building trust, setting clear boundaries and supporting pupils with complex needs, this role could be the perfect match.
About the Role
You will be working one-to-one with a Year 4 pupil who requires focused, consistent support due to the following needs:
* Strong autism presentation
* Personalised timetable, often learning outside the main classroom
* Prone to dysregulation and testing boundaries
* Requires structure, predictability and an adult who can remain calm and steady
This pupil benefits from an adult who can:
* Set clear, firm but fair boundaries
* Avoid escalation or power struggles
* Offer a nurturing, patient and unconditional approach
* Work flexibly around his individual learning timetable
* Ideally bring team-teach or de-escalation experience (though not essential)
If you can remain grounded when situations become challenging and can create a safe, stable environment, you will excel in this role.
Why This Role Stands Out
This is not a standard classroom support position. It’s an opportunity to:
* Make a real and lasting impact on a pupil who needs consistency and trust
* Join a school with a supportive team that truly understands SEND
* Work full-time on a long-term basis with ongoing support from Reed
* Use your experience and expertise in an environment where it truly matters
* Grow professionally through meaningful one-to-one work
This role offers challenge, purpose and the chance to help shape a child’s school journey in the best possible way.
What We’re Looking For
To be considered for this role, you should have:
* Strong experience supporting pupils with autism
* A calm, resilient and compassionate approach
* Confidence working 1:1 with behaviour and emotional regulation needs
* Excellent communication and consistency
* The ability to set boundaries without confrontation
* A commitment to work full-time from after Easter onwards
Location and Start Date
* Pontefract (WF9)
* Full-time, long-term
* Start date: Immediately after the Easter holidays
How to Apply
If you’re an experienced SEND TA who enjoys a challenge, thrives in a supportive environment, and wants a role where your impact is felt daily, we would love to hear from you.
Apply today through Reed and help make a meaningful difference in a child’s school experience.
